Why Tiny Houses are Popular

Lately, there’s been a lot of talk everywhere about tiny houses, but many people are still left wondering what exactly tiny houses are and why they are so popular.

And, not surprisingly, a tiny house is exactly what it sounds like… a tiny house. Some may define a tiny house as having less than 1,000 square feet of floor space, but this seems generous as most people who decide to buy or build a tiny house go as little as 400 square feet or less. While not everyone is keen on the idea of living in such a small space, the tiny house movement continues to grow in popularity as more people are choosing to downsize their lives into a tiny home.

This still leaves many people asking why anyone would want to live in a tiny house. And, well, there are several reasons that keep people interested in the idea of living in a tiny house. One of the biggest reasons are due to finances as living in a tiny home is often much less expensive than living in a traditional home. Others are drawn to the tiny house movement because they want to have less of an impact on the environment. And, above all, many people are drawn to this lifestyle because they desire more freedom in their lives.

Overall, tiny houses are affordable and sustainable. Many people also use them for travel since they are often built on trailers. This means that you can pick up and move your entire life around, without having to leave your house behind.

When you take a step back and look at it, tiny houses offer countless benefits to their owners. And, when you take everything into account, it’s no wonder why so many people are willing to downsize and adopt the tiny house lifestyle.

The Benefits of Tiny Houses

There are, as previously mentioned, many benefits that come with living in a tiny house. Here, we are going to break down each one of them to give you a better idea as to what tiny houses lifestyle can offer to you.

Less Expensive

One of the biggest benefits of buying or building a tiny house is that they only cost a fraction of the price of a traditional home. This makes tiny homes much more affordable for people who want to own their own place but can’t afford a down-payment for a house. Above all, many tiny home owners spend less money on their mortgage and can therefore pay off debt much faster.

Mobile

Another huge benefit to living in a tiny house is that they are usually built on a trailer and can be moved around just about anywhere you can tow it. This makes things much easier if you ever want to move. Many people even just use a tiny home to travel, since they are often much more comfortable than a traditional RV.

Environmentally Friendly

Many people who are interested in tiny houses like the fact that they offer a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to modern living. Because of their smaller size, tiny houses are much more energy efficient than their larger counterparts. They are even sometimes power by their own solar panels or generators, allowing their owners to live off grid if they choose to.

Less Maintenance

In addition to having less of an impact on the environment, the smaller physical size of tiny homes means that they require less maintenance and upkeep. Even when it comes to doing regular cleaning and housework, a small house can be cleaned top to bottom much faster than a full-sized house. Tiny houses can also be placed on much smaller properties so outdoor chores are also significantly reduced.

Functional/Practical

Because there isn’t all that much room in a tiny house, they are usually packed full of interesting space-saving solutions. This helps keep things practical, as there is quite literally no room for extra things in your home that you don’t need. Also, many people are choosing to own a tiny home in addition to their regular house. This can offer the versatility of a mobile home, while many are also choosing to own a tiny home as a rental property, guest home or in-law suite.

Community

The tiny house movement is continuously growing and as such, when you adopt a tiny home, you immediately become part of a worldwide community of like-minded people. Everywhere, in the US and around the world, tiny house communities are popping up, where people with similar goals and lifestyles can live together in harmony.

Customizable

Another one of the things that people love about tiny homes is that they are fully customizable. When you buy or build a tiny home, you only have a limited amount of space to work with. Therefore, many people put a lot of effort into planning the layout and design of their home so that no space goes unused. This often includes ideas such as table and furniture that can fold-away or that can double as storage space. When it comes to designing your own tiny home, the possibilities are nearly endless.

Rural areas usually have more lenient restrictions when it comes to this sort of homes, however, urban areas usually have strict regulations regarding the minimum size of a single-family home.

There are a few things to keep in mind that might influence the laws in your areas such as:

  • Whether the tiny home is on a permanent foundation or if it is built on a trailer
  • If there are existing utilities such as electricity, water and sewage hookups.
  • Whether the house will be used as a permanent residence or as a recreational vehicle
  • Where the structure is located on the property

While these are important factors to keep in mind, it is important to do your due diligence and perform a thorough research about your own local laws and zoning regulations.

Where Can I Get a Tiny House in New Hampshire?

You will have two options when it comes to finding tiny homes for sale in New Hampshire. The first is to build your own tiny house and the second option is to buy a tiny home. Both options have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages and here, we go over a few of them.

Building

Pros

When you choose to build your home, you get the ability to customize the home the way you want it. You will get to make all the choices from which building materials get used to the layout of the rooms.

Cons

Building can sometimes be a complicated process. You will have to have a lot or parcel of land to build your tiny house on and will have to adhere to local building codes. While enlisting a builder will help simplify the process, building a tiny house is, overall, a lengthier and more complex process than buying one.

Buying

Pros

When you choose to purchase a tiny house, you will often be able to move in sooner than when you must wait for the house to be built. It also means that there is no complicated planning and building involved, which means less potential headaches.

Cons

The major downside to buying a previously owned tiny house is that you do not get to make any calls as to the layout or which building materials get used.

Why Hiring a Builder is Better Than Looking for Used Tiny Homes for Sale in New Hampshire?

There are many reasons as to why hiring a builder is the better choice when it comes to making the switch to tiny living. When you enlist the help of a builder, you are completely involved in the process and will be able to make many of the important choices involved in the build of your tiny house.

Here are some of the reasons why hiring a builder is the clear winner.

Less expensive

The cost of using a builder will often be less than purchasing a used tiny home. Many owners, who are selling their tiny homes, are looking to make at least some small profit on the sale. This means that buying will often cost you significantly more than building your tiny home from the ground up.

Custom

As previously stated, a builder should involve you in the entire building process. This means that you get to totally customize your tiny home just the way you want it. You will get to choose which building materials are used, how the house is laid out and how the interior will be finished once the frame is completed.

You stay involved

When dealing with a builder, they should involve you in the entire process. Every decision that is made should be passed to you first. A good contractor will make sure to discuss any plans or changes that are being made and should always take your opinions into consideration.

Solid Build

Contractors are experienced in building tiny homes and know how to build a solid structure that is guaranteed to last. When you buy a used tiny house, you will not get to see what went into the build and you will never truly know how solid the house truly is.

Furnishing

Many builders ever give you the option of furnishing your tiny house for you. This ensures that once complete, the house will be completely move-in ready. You will get to pick the furniture and what appliances get put into the house. A good builder should also ensure that all interior finishing is complete before furnishing the home.

When dealing with a builder, they should involve you in the entire process. Every decision that is made should be passed to you first. A good contractor will make sure to discuss any plans or changes that are being made and should always take your opinions into consideration.

Furnishing

Many builders ever give you the option of furnishing your tiny house for you. This ensures that once complete, the house will be completely move-in ready. You will get to pick the furniture and what appliances get put into the house. A good builder should also ensure that all interior finishing is complete before furnishing the home.

Laws Regarding Tiny Houses in Connecticut

As with many US states, in Connecticut, one of the biggest issues surround tiny houses are its local zoning regulations. Most local municipalities have minimum size requirements for small single-family dwellings. These minimums include the height of the ceiling and the house’s square footage.

There are even zoning regulations that might prevent parking RVs or tiny homes on wheels on a property. These laws may leave you wondering where you will be able to place your tiny home. And, sadly, now, most people are confined to their own private backyards.

Inexpensive

Most tiny houses are built on wheels and can be used either as a full-time home or as a recreational vehicle that you can take with you wherever you go. Not only can they function as an RV, but tiny houses can be used for a plethora of different uses. Some people these days are starting to use tiny homes in conjunction with their existing house. This allows them to use the tiny house as a home office or studio, in-law suite, guest house or rental unit.

Functional

One thing that people love about tiny houses is how functional they can be. When dealing with such a small amount of space, there is an important need to make every inch count. Many tiny home owners take it as a challenge to see what kind of nifty, space-saving ideas they can come up with. This might include ideas such as fold-away tables, furniture that doubles as storage or anything that can make better use of a space that would normally go to waste.

Community

In general, tiny houses can cost anywhere between $20,000 and $150,000. However, the average cost falls closer to in between the $70,000 and $120,000 price range.

Buying

Once you’ve acquired financing and found a tiny house that you are interested in, there is little else keeping you from moving in other than settling on a move-in day. This process is often much quicker than building, however, you will not get to customize your house.

Building

When you build your own tiny house, you get the opportunity to design it to your own standards. You will get to choose how big of a house to build, how the house is laid out and what building materials get used. Unless doing the work yourself, you will work side-by-side with engineers and a licensed contractor who will make sure to build you a solid, long-lasting tiny house. The downside to building a tiny home is that the build process will often take longer than if you choose to buy, there is also the possibilities of running into a lot of headaches while building.

Why is Hiring a Builder Better Than Looking for Used Tiny Homes for Sale in Louisiana?

When hiring a professional builder or contractors, they will provide you with all the necessary tools for you to be able to build the tiny house of your dreams.

Contractors usually have years of experience in the field and know all the ins and outs of how the process works. They will be able to guide you through every step and make sure that your voice is heard and that your opinions are taken into consideration. A good building contractor works with you and will make sure that you are satisfied with every step of the build process.

This means that by the time you walk away, you will have a smile on your face and the contractor can rest easy knowing that they’ve accomplished another job successfully.

Tiny houses for sale in Arkansas (AR) | Home built for you

tiny houses for sale in arkansas

Why Tiny Houses are Popular in Arkansas

Arkansas, or as some know it, the Bear State is a wonderful place for those looking at tiny houses. Located, in the interior Highlands of the US, the region’s geography ranges from picturesque mountain areas, all the way to the densely populated Arkansas Timberland. In a state like this, it’s no wonder that more citizens are looking for tiny houses for sale in Arkansas.

The tiny house movement is, in some ways, a call to action for people who are looking to fight back against a traditional way of living. More and more, we are seeing how wasteful our society is and many of us want out. This movement gives people an escape from high mortgages and life-long debt. Moreover, those who adopt the lifestyles have access to a simpler way of life, involving less work and more versatility.

Arkansas is also one of the few states with a nice climate throughout most of the year. This makes it a great place to settle down and build a tiny home. With its combination of mountains and forest, who wouldn’t want to call this land their own?

The Benefits of Tiny Houses

Tiny house owners like to keep a few key things in mind and although it may not be a lifestyle for everyone, there are certainly some major advantages to it. People who live in these tiny houses get to enjoy a few perks that other traditional homeowners don’t.

Tiny houses are eco-friendly

This is one of the biggest reasons as to why people are starting to take this life more seriously. Many people looking at tiny houses for sale in Arkansas are looking to build a greener and more sustainable way of life. Tiny houses are proven to be more energy efficient than larger homes and because of their size, tiny houses do not require as much energy for heating, cooling or for electricity. A lot of tiny house owners even run their homes off solar panels, further reducing their carbon footprint.

Less Maintenance

It’s obvious that living in a house is going to decrease the amount of maintenance required to run your household. When your house is only the size of what most people’s living rooms are, maybe three or four hundred square feet at the most, you can only collect so much mess and clutter. Housework will only take you a fraction of the time than what it would in a larger house and any repairs will also have a reduced cost and duration time since the jobs will always be smaller.

The Simple Life

The tiny house lifestyle is on the rise and everybody knows it. Over the years, the average size of a single-family home in the United States has gone up from 1780 square feet to nearly 2700 square feet, even though the size of families has been in decline. Families have nearly decreased nearly by an entire person, but the size of their homes has nearly doubled? The tiny house movement has basically been a push-back against the world of excessive material possessions and exorbitant wealth.

Mobility

These days, many people who are looking for tiny homes for sale in Arkansas are opting for a house that has an axle and wheels. While often thought of as a glorified RV, tiny houses are anything but a recreational vehicle. Tiny houses are much more often likened to a conventional household. However, when your house has wheels, you can take you and your entire life almost anywhere you want to go. Many owners live mortgage and/or debt free, tend to have more disposable income to put towards travel and are less tied down than traditional home owners

The Cost of Tiny Houses for Sale in Arkansas

The cost of tiny homes for sale in Arkansas is going to vary depending on the individual house. Many people who have built a tiny house, have put a lot of effort into designing the finished product. Typically, buying a tiny house will cost you anywhere between $100,000 and $150,000. However, for those who decide to build their own tiny house, they often spend as little as $20,000. That is, of course, if they build it themselves and do all the work.

There is, also, another option. Some people may choose to hire a builder to do the work for you. This will cost more than building a tiny house yourself. But, it will probably save you a few headaches and unexpected costs in the long run. Having a tiny house built can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $70,000.

Always be wary of builders who are selling tiny houses for $30,000 or less. This lower price, usually will not include any interior finishes and will leave you with a lot of unexpected costs.

Where Can I Get a Tiny House in Arkansas?

It depends on what your individual plans are. However, there are two options when it comes to finding yourself a tiny home. You can either choose to buy a pre-existing home from its previous owners, or you can build the tiny home of your dreams. The two options, of course, have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages.

When buying, you will get the chance to look into other people’s tiny homes, which can be a great way to get ideas for your future tiny home. You will get to see what you like and what you don’t like about tiny house living. Purchasing your tiny home will give you the time to truly figure out what you want and are looking for. The disadvantage of buying a used tiny home is that you lose out on the excitement of building your own home. You also won’t have as much control as to what materials go into building the house.

Building your tiny home lets you customize your dream house to the way that you want it. Whether you use a builder, or do the work yourself, building your house gives you greater control over the project and allows you to put your own personal touch into the house’s finish.

Why Hiring Builders is Better Than Looking for Used Tiny Homes for Sale in Arkansas

When you enlist the help of a builder, you are hiring qualified, professional people who have all the knowledge needed to build you a solid, long-lasting tiny home. Tiny house builders often have years of experience in the industry and know all the ins and outs of what goes into building the perfect house. Choosing the help of a builder not only ensures professional help, but it also guarantees that you will be able to work with them and design and customize your dream home exactly the way you want it. Aside, many builders may even offer a warranty on their work. So, you can move in and relax, knowing that any problems will be taken care of.

Laws Regarding Tiny Houses in Arkansas

In the state of Arkansas, the legality of a tiny house will entirely depend on its local laws and zoning regulations. Every city, county and municipality will have their own set of laws in regard to tiny houses.

Due to zoning regulations, the lot that you are planning on building your tiny house on can also make a difference in terms of its legality. Some lots may allow certain things, whereas, a lot across the street might not. Things such as the lots physical size or its proximity to other infrastructure.

Regardless, each case is going to be different and you will need to do a thorough research about your local municipality’s laws and restrictions. Consulting with a licensed contractor can clear up some of your questions regarding local laws, but the responsibility falls on the home owner to know what is and is not allowed.

Why Tiny Houses are Popular in Tennessee

The tiny house movement is continuing to gain ground and in the U.S., it is no different. Now, we are seeing more people starting to look for tiny houses for sale in Tennessee because of all the great benefits that tiny living can offer.

Tiny houses are generally no bigger than 400 square feet and are usually built on a solid foundation or a trailer with wheels. Due to their smaller size and the fact that they typically use more eco-friendly appliances, these small houses are a great option for singles, couples and retirees looking for somewhere small and quiet to settle down. They are also a great way to leave less of an impact on our already delicate eco system.

While living in a tiny house isn’t going to be the right choice for everyone, there are still many questions that people have about this newer type of living.

The biggest problem for those who want to adopt the tiny house lifestyle is that there are still a lot of legal issues surrounding tiny houses and where they can be built or placed. The tiny house movement is still rather new to the real estate world; therefore, most state and municipal legislators have not yet accounted for these types of tiny houses.

However, with growing demand, every day, more people are feeling the need to simplify their lives and take back control. As well as control over their own lives, tiny house owners also get to enjoy a bunch of benefits that traditional home owners don’t.

The Benefits of Tiny Houses

As mentioned, there are several benefits to tiny house living. Although, it is an overall simpler life, there are many other factors that keep people interested in the idea of living in a tiny house. Here are a few key benefits of tiny house living.

Maintenance

One major benefit of finding tiny houses for sale in Tennessee is that there are a lot fewer things that can break or go wrong. Not only will repairs and maintenance jobs be smaller projects overall, they will also cost much less. With a smaller dimension, tiny houses also have less space for clutter to build up. Many tiny house owners are looking to rid themselves of a lot of the things in their lives that they find unnecessary. They tend to focus more on the experience of living life, rather than collecting material possessions.

Eco-Friendly

Many people like the idea of living in a tiny house because it is a more green and sustainable lifestyle. Not only are tiny homes generally more energy efficient than their counterparts, but they are often built using recycled materials that are environmentally friendly such as wood and stone. Moreover, many tiny houses are powered by their own solar panels or use electricity created by generators.

Profitability

Depending on the type of solar system that is used, some tiny home owners may even be able to produce more power than they use. They are then able to sell this excess power back to the utility company, in turn, making profits on the transaction.

Less Debt

Many tiny home owners also benefit by owing less debt to the banks. Whether they were able to finance their tiny house by using a small personal loan or managed to pay for it out of their own pocket, tiny home owners are usually able to pay down their debt much faster than those who are paying for a traditional house.

Mobility

These days, many people are looking for tiny homes for sale in Tennessee that are mounted on wheels. Like an RV, although by far more functional, this type of tiny home allows its owner the possibility to pick up and move their life around at any time. Even those who live in tiny homes built on permanent foundations get to enjoy a life with fewer bills and debt. This, in turn, often allows tiny home owners to invest more money into traveling and experiencing the world.

Laws Regarding Tiny Houses in Kentucky

The laws and restrictions are going to vary by city and/or municipality. And, due to their diversity, no two situations are going to be the same. The best idea is to consult with a local building expert who can give you insider knowledge about local building codes, land ordinances and property restrictions.

If you choose to own a tiny house that is mounted on wheels or a trailer, you will often be exempt from certain building codes and property restrictions that you would have to adhere to if you were building on a foundation. A tiny house on wheels is often the better choice because it allows for greater mobility and, as mentioned, is often exempt from some building codes. This means that you have more freedom to build your tiny house the way you want it.

As an example, many municipalities require a residence to have a functioning bathroom connected to a sewage line. However, tiny house on wheels will not have to abide by this rule and, if they wished, could install a compost toilet instead.

It is a good idea to take the following factors into consideration when looking at tiny homes.

  • The size of the property on which the tiny house will be placed.
  • Square footage and height of the structure.
  • Whether there are existing structures on the property.
  • Which utilities will the tiny house need or use.
  • Whether your tiny house will be built on wheels or on a permanent foundation.

Why Tiny Houses are Popular in Missouri

Look anywhere you want. No matter where you look, you’ll see that we live in a world of material excess. Whether it’s that we have too much time, too much money or just too much space, many of us have far more than we need. The entire way that society is run is too much, which is exactly why more people are starting to look at tiny houses for sale in Missouri.

In the US, the size of an average, single-family dwelling is estimated at around 2,600 square feet. And, for the average family of 4 individuals, that gives each person living in the house an entire 650 square feet to themselves. Doesn’t that seem like more living space than a single person needs?

Tiny homes, on the other hand, are usually defined as 400 square feet or less and provide the minimum amount of space for its tenants to live comfortably. Many of these tiny homes are outfitted with many space-saving ideas such as fold-away table and furniture that double as storage.

Aside from having a smaller footprint, tiny homes cost a lot less. This is perfect for a country where roughly 75% of its population is living paycheck to paycheck. Daily, we are seeing more people around the world that are starting to see all the amazing benefits that living in a tiny house can offer.

The Benefits of Tiny Houses

Affordability

Most tiny home owners can save up and pay for their tiny house outright, or they are able to get a mortgage that is quite smaller than what it would usually cost for a conventional house. Many tiny home owners can pay off their debt sooner or have much smaller mortgages than people living in a full-size house.

Environmental

One of the best reasons for buying tiny houses for sale in Missouri is that they are much more energy efficient than their larger counterparts. Tiny houses are only a fraction of the size of a traditional house. This means that they are easier to heat and cool and will, in turn, be that much easier on the environment.

Versatile

Tiny houses have the flexibility to function as both a full-time home or, if it’s on wheels, a recreational vehicle. Not only are they flexible in terms of mobility, they are also versatile and can be used as a home studio, rental unit, in-law suite or just as a pleasant escape from your dearly beloved husband or wife.

Limitless

When you buy tiny houses, you are no longer tied down to the traditional type of life that most people have. Without a mortgage and by having wheels underneath your house, you will be able to go wherever life takes you, without leaving your home behind. Many of our clients turn to a fully-nomadic life and tend to travel around the country, staying for as long or as little as they like before moving on.

Community

When you make the switch to tiny house living, you will ultimately be joining a worldwide community of tiny home owners who share many of the same values as you. With more people taking the leap into tiny homes around the world, it is becoming easier to get out and meet like-minded people who are pursuing some of the same things in life as you.

When looking, you may be able to find builders who offer prices as low as $30,000 for a tiny home. Be cautious when dealing with these types of prices. A deal that seems too good to be true is usually, well, too good to be true. A price this low will often only include the cost of the house itself and will not include any finishes or furnishing.

Where Can I Get a Tiny House in Missouri?

There are basically two options as to where you can get a tiny house in Missouri. You can buy, or you can build. Both methods have their own pros and cons. Here, we will go over both options in a little more depth.

Buying

When buying tiny homes for sale in Missouri, you will settle a deal with the house’s current owner and once you’ve acquired the financing and signed the paperwork, you will be able to call the place your own. This is an ideal option for those who need to move quickly. However, although this is a faster method of getting a tiny house, you will not get the chance to customize the tiny house of your dream. While many people may be ok with this, since space is so limited, some people looking to get into a tiny house want the opportunity to customize their home with their own space saving ideas.

Building

There are two options when it comes to building your own tiny house. Many people choose to take it upon themselves to build their own home by hand. This is great for people who have the motivation to put in the time and effort that goes into building a house. However, there are others who may choose to enlist a professional tiny house contractor. Hiring a builder often takes a lot of the work out of building a house and some contractors might even offer to furnish the house for you.

Why Hiring a Builder is Better Than Looking for Used Tiny Homes for Sale in Missouri?

When you choose to enlist the professional help of a tiny house builder, the contractor makes sure to take all the heavy work out of the job. Tiny house builders have the experience and knowledge required to build a solid, quality tiny home.

Your contractor will do all the sub-contracting for you and make sure that your project is finished on time and efficiently. More so, there are many tiny home builders who will offer a warranty on some of their work.

When working with a builder, you will still get to make many important decisions such as the design of the house and the types of materials that are used. Builders work with you and it’s important for them to know exactly what you have in mind. This helps to keep you involved and ensures they can provide a product that meets every one of your expectations.

Laws Regarding Tiny Houses in Missouri

As with any state, the laws and zoning regulations are going to vary by region. What is allowed in one township, might not be in the next township over. Although the tiny house movement is continuously gaining ground, municipal laws have yet been able to make the changes needed to accommodate these new types of dwellings.

Most cities and municipalities have minimum size requirements for single-family dwellings. These size requirements often make it nearly impossible to build a tiny house, which is typically defined as less than 400 square feet.

Still, some tiny home owners can circumvent some of these zoning regulations by having their tiny house built on a trailer or mounted onto wheels. This will classify it as a recreational vehicle and many of your municipalities building restrictions will no longer apply. However, you will still have to follow what local laws say about parking a recreational vehicle on your property.

Always be sure to do thorough research on your region’s building codes and zoning restrictions. Consulting with a local building professional can be a great way to gain in-depth knowledge of regional laws.
